Not much sculpting going on as I am recovering from flu but I have been playing with my sculptures in the landscape. Normal sculpture making will resume shortly. For finished sculptures go to http://amandahewitt.tumblr.com/

My first experience of a cast from a silicone mould made by me. It is very wrinkly and has needed a lot of filing and filling (see above) before I can even start the filing. For finished sculptures go to http://amandahewitt.tumblr.com/

24th November: I removed the two halves of the cement sculpture from the plaster woman and now I have two. I then joined the two pieces together which I must now allow to dry. I am thinking of making another cement version before I finish the plaster one but how to finish any of them? I keep changing my mind. For finished sculptures go to http://amandahewitt.tumblr.com/

My big plaster lady isn't finished yet but it was time to start the cement version. I covered her in cling film, then marked, in felt tip, where the two halves would join. Then applied fibre glass strips dipped in very watery cement fondu mix, slightly overlapping and pressed very firmly onto one half of the sculpture. Immediately, I covered the cement in plastic to push it down more and to stop it drying too quickly, it must harden before it dries. I covered the dividing line in plastic so that when I applied the cement on the other side the two sides wouldn't touch. I'm hoping that I will be able to remove the cement cast from the plaster sculpture with ease. Finally, I covered the whole sculpture in plastic again just to be sure it didn't dry too quickly. Fingers crossed.

The welcome sunshine cast shadows over my large lady unveiling all the undulations and hidden curves that should and shouldn't be there. I removed another layer, smoothing her down finding new lines removing unwanted ones and I'm convinced that one more day is all I need. I have been working on her for weeks but have actually only spent 8 days on her. She is nearly ready to become the template for my outdoor version. Have started smoothing her down from head to base which given that she is nearly 2 metres high is hard work! Her bottom needs to be more rounded to give the feeling of the tummy sweeping through to the underside of her bottom creating a beautiful curve.

I think I've finally finished the clay version but will have to wait until day light to be really sure the I would like to make a re-usable mould so that I can make a few in stuc but in different shades. I thought I'd nearly finished her but now looking at the photographs I think her arms are too short and I need to drop them slightly. I did find her central line again, though. For finished sculptures go to http://amandahewitt.tumblr.com/

Since her fall, I've lost her central line and her symmetry. I want her to be peaceful and contemplative. Her whole upper body will have to be removed and changed. At least the length of her legs are right. Still a lot of work to be done. For finished sculptures go to http://amandahewitt.tumblr.com/ or follow me on Twitter.

The smaller version of the plaster sculpture. Unfortunately it fell over twice and I've had to start again. This is what she looked like before:
so lots more to do.

Put a third layer of plaster on but have still a long way to go. The head is developing and the form is gradually taking shape. Friday, I'll be filing her down and hopefully starting a final layer with a slight tint. Tomorrow, I'll be working on the smaller version and Pyramid Woman 2 in plaster. Was at Anne's putting another layer of plaster on my large sculpture to strengthen it with fibre glass then I started a second layer of plaster to recover the lines and form but have still a long way to go. To see finished sculptures go to http://www.amandahewitt.tumblr.com/
